My message to the Vice President

At a fundraiser in Manchester, NH, today, Vice President Biden urged Democrats to "remind our base constituency to stop whining and get out there and look at the alternatives. This President has done an incredible job. He’s kept his promises." [Source]

Joe, I've got a message for you and I'm going to keep it really simple: Fuck you!

What you just did was whine at people who worked their butts of to put you and Obama in office. We expect better of you. We demand better of you.

We're not whining. We're trying to hold your feet to the fire and get you to stand up for the principles of the Democratic Party, to stop playing nicey nice with bad-faith Republicans and conservative Democrats so that we give away most of the game before play even begins.

And you have not listened.

You have brushed off both us and our concerns repeatedly.

By the way, not all promises have been kept.

If that's the best you have to fire up the base before elections, you had better be thankful you are not running this November.

I support progressive Democrats from around the country, with encouragement, spreading the word about them in this little corner, and sending them money. But unless I see a real turn-around in the behavior of the White House you can bet I will not send a red cent to the 2012 presidential campaign, just as I will not now send any money to the national Democratic congressional or senate campaign committees. I do not want my hard-earned money going to Blue Dogs, compromisers, party traitors, and spineless wimps.

I will work hard for more and better Democrats in the House and Senate. The White House has accomplished a lot but absolutely may not assume my respect or support.

In short, Joe: Fuck you!

Somehow I get the idea that you don't like what Joe said, Paul.

You're a quick study, Mimi.

If I felt the WH ever listened to progressives I might be more inclined to listen to them. But if they want lockstep followers they should be Republicans.

I knew Obama was a centrist going in but don't blame us if we have expectations and voice them.

Hear, hear!

I suppose they think it is whining when I point out that their administration of purported transparency has more invocation of state secrets than Bush did, that we still detain people without charges or trial, that the FBI is spying on war protesters (again? yes again!), that the President asserts to right to order assassinations on his say so, that instead or declining to enforce a law that has been held unconstitutional in the courts (DADT) they choose to appeal on its behalf, that there was a complete lack of leadership on behalf of a public option (only half-hearted lip service, if that) when the majority of the American people supported it, and that everyone, including Republicans, seems to be consulted but not progressives, except to scold us.

Well, you made your damned bed and you can lay in it.

[Maybe later I'll tell y'all how I really feel.]

Is the best that we will be able to say of Obama/Biden/DLC/Blue Dog Dems that they are better than the sack of shit excuse for a political party that is the opposition? I'm afraid so.

I won't even say that much on behalf of the DLC and Blue Dogs. I prefer an honest enemy.

I do not think Obama is my enemy, but he is not my "fierce advocate" and he remains a centrist and corporatist. It was a huge mistake to take his financial advisers from Wall Street without contrasting viewpoints. Three cheers for Elizabeth Warren. I wish he'd replace Larry Summers with Paul Krugman. Yeah, I know, very funny little joke there.
