Heart thread - 09/07/2010

We have been praying for Sister Ellie's little grandnephew James. There is wonderful news (but keep the prayers coming).

Aug 28 - Little James came through his eight hour heart surgery but is now on a ventilator as he can't breathe on his own. The word is that he will stay on it another two days and then they will try to wean him off.

Sept 6 - James got to come home from the hospital today. He still has to be closely monitored but everyone is so glad to be able to sleep at home. Thank you for all your prayers and kind words.

Let us also remember Susankay's friend Peggy with stage 4 lung cancer.

For Kirstin, who shares recent thoughts here.

For KJ's father on his final journey and for KJ and the family.

For those killed, injured, or displaced by floods and those who struggle to rebuild their lives. There have been floods in Pakistan, North Korea, Australia, and the Ethiopia.

More shots from today

Gran Quivira

Me at Quarai

In my new bifocal sunglasses. The last pair were prescription sunglasses that I used all the time for driving in daylight but they were not bifocals. The new ones allow me to walk around and read while wearing sunglasses. (Those who have never worn bifocals probably cannot appreciate the ground not being where it should be.)

It was an incredibly beautiful day.

An outing

Scarlet globe mallows at Gran Quivira

Yes, dear reader, we took advantage of a federal holiday for another day trip in New Mexico. This time is was a visit to the Salinas Pueblo Missions.

These are the ruins (now part of a national monument - see link above) of Franciscan missions built by the pueblo peoples who lived near natural salt beds (Las Salinas).

We went to see two of them today, at Quarai and Gran Quivira. We did not visit Abó.
