99 and counting

La République Togolaise nous donne le quatre-vingt-dix-neuvième drapeau.

A visitor from Togo has given us the 99th flag in our virtual collection. Soyez le bienvenu!

Togo is a West African country bordered by Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Benin. (If you head north beyond Burkina Faso you will cross Mali and Algeria on your way to the Mediterranean, just to help locate it for those reading recent geography posts.)

A large chunk of exports come from the three Cs: cocoa, coffee, and cotton. Phosphate mining is also significant for the economy. Most of the population is involved in subsistence farming and fishing.

Here is a National Geographic 2006 short on an annual new year festival in Togo for the voodoo faith. It looks like much more fun than Lambeth.
