Questa sera

Was it Shel who asked if these smelled as roses ought? Yes, they do, but evening is not the time to sniff them. Warmth and humidity bring out the aroma. Alas, when I photograph the bush the roses look a brownish pink. I adjusted the color to look like what my eyes see. Who you gonna believe, a photograph or my lying eyes?

The trumpet vine seems very happy this year. Summer has not officially started and it is blooming away.

I did not have the camera in hand when I went out to water the yard and the sky was in a thousand shades of lemon but here is tonight's sky after watering.

Why I live here.

Sunset last night (with gardening update)

I don't have a fancy camera like TCR (and wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do with it if I did), but here is a shot out my office window of the eastern sky at sunset yesterday.

Today began as another beautiful winter day, though feeling a bit colder than yesterday. By the time I got out of brunch it was gray overhead and cooler. By the time I got out of Lowe's with more mulch (and another clematis and some honeysuckle), it was very gray, very chilly, and very windy.

While my digs on the far south end of town tend to be warmer and milder than the north end of town, this is not a yard day, so I'm staying inside. This means I hope to plant next weekend. With bare root plants this should be no problem.

Thus, no planting reports for today.

More from last evening at sunset

The Marriott "Pyramid"

Looking north

Closer view of the Pyramid

I liked it better before they tarted it up with cadmium red medium highlights. The effect is muted and less harsh in these photos but it's really noxious and clashes with the entire environment.

Another sunset

Sunset, Albuquerque, 10-22-2005

I noticed the lovely shades of sunset as I left work this evening but my poor camera could not have captured the color when it was getting that close to dark.

So here is another taken when I worked here three years ago (prior to moving to New Mexico). Just to give y'all an idea of the treat God gives us in autumn around here.

I do this just to arouse delicious agonies in FranIAm. I am very naughty.

Gratuitous sunset pic

Sunset, Hercules, California 3-12-2006

This was shot from the deck of my then-new condo a few months before moving to New Mexico. It has an elegiac tone.

But lovely.

Martian Sunset

NASA's Image of the Day brings us this Martian sunset.

h/t to Hubris Sonic at The Group News Blog who observes, "Hollywood never had it right."

Φώς ιλαρόν

Sunset this evening, viewed from my office at home

O gracious Light,
pure brightness of the everliving Father in heaven,
O Jesus Christ, holy and blessed!
Now as we come to the setting of the sun,
and our eyes behold the vesper light,
we sing your praises, O God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices,
O Son of God, O Giver of life,
and to be glorified through all the worlds.
