Give me land, lots of land, neath the starry skies above

I am about to board the plane homeward!

This is a view from the west mesa across the valley of ABQ toward the east mountains.  I live sort of in the center of the shadowed area (that dark strip across the middle).  A cloud had passed while I was taking this photo.  This is my view when I drive home along the west side.

Woohoo!

Paul -- we just left yesterday -- it's rather "warm". Are you home for good or just the weekend?

Rather warm, susankay comments coyly.

It was 99 degrees upstairs when I got here (home).

Doesn't matter. I'm home!

But just for the weekend. The job may, or may not, extend for some time. All of August for sure, September quite probably, and I rather expect to be in NOLA for Hallowe'en. But one never knows.

Given my yearning for my desert home, this has elements of suckitude.

Given my financial situation, this is a godsend.

Life is messy. Let's make lemonade.

With vodka in it ;-).

And a little Cole Porter in the background.

Remember, I read your blog. Seriously, I'm happy you're in your beloved homeplace.

Dear Grandmère, there is no question in my mind that New Orleans is a great city and I pray for its restoration. But it is no more home for me than the dry, dry West would be for you, and I know you know that. With the longer time-frame I should get to see you again - maybe a day trip out your way some Sunday. That's the good part. But living out of a suitcase far from one's regular life is sucky, no matter how you slice and dice it.

Paul, you could not say worse about my place, than I have already said about the desert. I hope that you've forgotten my words.

LOL. Sorry, Mimi, I was too amused by your view of the desert and I hope you can be amused at my view of the humid lowlands. With the variety of climes on this glorious planet we would be in dire straits if everyone liked and flocked to the same place.

I ran into some folks from New Orleans at church today, plus others who have lived there at various times. I met a former rector of All Saints, River Ridge, who is now at Christ Church Cathedral, and his wife who sat behind me at All Saints the Sunday I attended there. The world is small.
