On being shrill

BTW: The media is resurrecting the word "shrill," which really takes me back. In fact, there is a lot about this period that strangely reminds me of the run-up to the war. It's that disorienting sense you get when lots of folks are telling you that you're hysterical and overwrought for noticing that "serious" people are either outright lying or are completely full of shit.

Damn, skippy! We have every right to be shrill when people lie to us or betray the American People.

I guess I have just taken a "shrill pill" - because I am pissed off about lying too.

I mean really... Ugh!

It's the word they always use about feminists, too, unless they're using "strident."

Rather like assertive men being forceful and assertive women being bitches. Same assertion, same issue, same tone, different judgment on it.

Sigh, will we ever even approximate one standard equally applied?

And anyone who, from a disempowered position, stands up for herself/himself is "pushy." The hope, of course, is that this will intimidate and disempower afresh so those in power remain unchallenged.

I do believe the internet has empowered a lot of ordinary people and before the death of the patriarchy is finished there's gonna be a whole lot of shrillness. To which I say, Shrill away!

We are fighting for our lives.
