Heart thread - 04/20/2009

I ask your prayers for my dear friend Kathy who will have surgery tomorrow afternoon, that all will go smoothly and she will have a swift and full recovery.

Those of you following Grandmère Mimi or Of Course I Could Be On Vacation will already have responded to these calls for prayer:

Sue wrote: "I have an update on Roseann. She's on her way to St. Vincent's Hospital with [a] fever of 103."

Susan S. also wrote to Mimi:
Barbara wrote me today after her visit to the Surgeon and apparently the Radiologist.

She says,"I went today for the surgeon to 'release' me - the stitches will dissolve - he said it looked good.

The radiologist was even more pleased with the incision and the amount to tumor removed. There were 2 lumps - one marble sized, one like a green pea. He also removed the biopsy 'scars' that were looking bad - not infected, just bad. So anyway, this Thursday I have a CT scan in preparation for radiation. They will make the 'cast' on Thursday too. The cast keeps you in the same position for each treatment. The radiologist said he might start the radiation next week too. So by May 2 or so, i'll start to have an idea how the chemo makes me feel. Hard to tell until it gets going ... The radiation - again it might be any number of treatments before the 'bad' stuff begins...

Please have everyone on both sides of the pond, keep praying... It is working so far."

Speaking for me, I think just knowing others are praying for, thinking of one is a great treatment.

The great-grandnieces, Clara and Olivia, continue to grow at Stanford.

Tomorrow I see the orthopedist to discuss my right knee. It's a bit of a mess. I would rather not tell the full story of how I injured it years ago. Let's just say I was very, very drunk and leave it at that. At the time, X-rays only showed arthritis and it seemed to heal with time. Things have gotten worse and the MRI shows worse arthritis and other problems. Nothing alarming, but older houses need that deferred maintenance, you know?

It was a beautiful day in Albuquerque today. The first day back at work after nursing my cold was a reasonable transition. I hope you are all having a very good Eastertide.

Sri Lanka prepares for an assault on the last holdout of the Tamil Tigers. Pray for the peace of Sri Lanka and healing of the society.

Pray for South Africa preparing for federal and provincial elections.

Pray for Roxana Saberi, the journalist sentenced for spying in Iran.

Pray for physicist Stephen Hawking who has been hospitalized.

Pray for victims of genocide in every place and time as we recall Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Day), this year remembering especially the 1.5 million children. On a related note, Sunday was the dedication of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Skokie.

Tonight I remember those who are alone and frightened, wherever they may be.

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love's sake. Amen.
