Here is a mantra that we learned when I took a course on Hindu wisdom from a fine Jesuit teacher.

from darkness into light,
from death into deathlessness.
I still chant it by myself from time to time.

I think almost ever 2 out 3 people know about this chant... but the sad bit is that nobody knows about the meaning... I kept chanting this my entire stay in 4 schools and I never knew the meaning... I mean people told me about it but I kept forgetting. Hind-sight is a gift. Cherish it.
Welcome, Zenmaster, and thank you for commenting.
Perhaps it was a blessing that I learned it in an academic setting where the professor was explaining things to us rather than in a meditation setting where I would have had no clue. Both, of course, play their part.
You speak from Bangalore where it is well known. Not so much in the United States, of course. Nice that it is something we can share.
Namaste.
Paul- lucky and delayed guessing on my part!
What a beautiful chant- these words really touch me. You know that I love to see them as well as hear them in English. Or read them in English I should say!
