"So?" is the famous two-letter, one-word reply Dick the Dick gave when asked about the opinion of the American people on the Iraq War.
I have to concede to His Deathness the Dark Lord that if you feel you are doing what it right, you might not wish to be swayed by polls. What troubles me is the idea that one could believe this disaster constitutes doing what is morally right. Profitable for cronies (and himself), yes. A vindication of his vision of a presidency unfettered by check and balances, certainly. But morally right? (As if such a category ever crosses his mind.)
Well, this week Martha Raddatz got to interview the Dark Lord's titular boss, the Torturer in Chief.
In the interview with ABC News Friday, Bush defended the waterboarding technique used against KSM.Prior to that Bush said this:
"We had legal opinions that enabled us to do it," Bush said. "And, no, I didn't have any problem at all trying to find out what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed knew."
"Well, we started to connect the dots, in order to protect the American people." Bush told ABC News White House correspondent Martha Raddatz. "And, yes, I'm aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved."[Emphasis mine]
The President of the United States just admitted to authorizing torture.
And the media are all agog over Clinton, McCain, and Obama trading taunts over elitism.
They sure do a good job trying to scrounge up shiny objects to deflect our attention from atrocities, don't they?
I want to say "they should all be waterboarded," but some shred of morality won't let me. But I feel really dirty--that this should be happening at American hands, that everybody acts as though nothing is happening, and that I should even contemplate such vileness.
Bush has slimed America and nobody seems to be noticing.
What gives?
Has the Fourth Estate become the excrement Bush wipes off his ass with the Constitution?
Don't expect me to become more civil as November approaches.

Paul, I've felt dirty every day for quite some time now. Baths don't help.
Do the media not pay attention because they've known this for some time, and this is only confirmation of what they already knew? Do they think we all know already? Those of us who think about these things are not surprised. And we know they don't care about sorting out what's important and what's not.
I finally wrote my long cathartic post on the Charlie Rose Show that left me depressed for two days, and I feel better now. It's quite long, but at least one person read it and left a comment. I thought no one would take the time.

I have had very little time online today - been gone most of the day - but I did read your post and am so glad you did it. I know it takes a bit out of one to report and reflect and express and publish like that, esp. after something that just brings one down. Good for you for doing it.
I don't think I had the energy or focus to comment there, but I was cheering you on!
