Week two of conversational Russian

Not so much deer in the headlights as a look of anxious consternation. At least that's how I think the teach saw my expression tonight. Every time she or the class said something I did not understand, my brows furrowed (as they can do easily).

She tried to reassure me.

Well, I really do think I will be fine and I've learned a lot in just the last week, but I have difficulty hiding my feelings when I'm lost and confused.

It is also, no doubt, good for my soul NOT to know the answer to every question in a language class for a change.

Oof! She gives a lot of homework.

Languages always come in stages. It's like driving in the Pyrinées or something.

The same, the same, the same - and suddenly a new landscape opens ! and then the same, the same, the same - and a new landscape...

Even after many years: I, for instance, start to stumble on my word after a couple of days - and then it eases...

;=)

A whole lot of this is imaginary - or almost... The Process ;=)

You know I love hearing about this!

Very true - lots of slogging and then come the breakthroughs.

This is, for me, a very old and very familiar process; it just has new content and I'm not as young as I used to be. I can still learn, prodigiously, but not with the same ease.
