Pavlovsk - part 3

We had anticipated snow that day but it didn't happen. So the sleigh ride became a carriage ride through the park. At the end of the ride we gathered in a pavilion where two musicians provided atmosphere and we had the requisite shots of vodka.

Спасибо!

Боже мой, my Russian is rusty.

LOL. I cannot write it and can barely decipher some. I have learned some Russian through tapes and CDs, so it is all aural-oral for me. I would dearly love to take at least one year of college-level Russian since I'd dearly love to return and be able to chat with the locals.

I could at least read what you wrote. Bill and I caught a concert of the High Desert Chorale in Santa Fe last Saturday. They sand the Allegri Miserere and the Rachmaninoff Vespers in the RC Cathedral. A stunning performance. Knocked my socks off. It was fun to follow the text in the program, all of it mercifully transliterated.

I just cut an pasted to put the tidbit in this post. My Russian phrase books are on loan to a family that is hosting a 9-yaer-old boy from Byelarus.

I had to play around with the Russian template because I had no idea where each letter was on the keyboard! Computers have all kinds of languages but of course the keyboard stays the same, so it took me about 20 mn to write those few words.

Talk about ways of distracting oneself...

Well, it was a nice break from school and all its meetings. My stress level has gone up significantly since work began again two days ago. I've done healthy things to counter the stress but all the exercise, yoga, and soaks in the tub still don't do it, 'cause it's here!

Ya panyimayu, maya druzha. I wouldn't even try. Though I am accustomed to typing in Spanish and that is farily easy. French a bit more of a challenge. As a polyglot, you know what a mental shifting of gears goes into switching among languages, even without the issue of differing alphabets. The combinations and patterns and rhythms are just different. It usually takes me a little while for my mouth to switch also.

Here's a big cyberhug for the stress: O
