Heart thread - 11/3/2008

Let us pray for the soul of Madelyn Dunham.
Sen. Barack Obama's grandmother died Sunday night, just hours before a presidential election in which her grandson could become the first African-American to win the nation's highest office.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Our thanks to her for helping raise her grandson and giving him to America.

I ask your prayers for Karen's mother. While checking in through TSA today I overheard a snippet about devastating news regarding cancer. I offered sympathy for whoever was involved and learned that the mother of a supervisor there is gravely ill and probably terminal. I promised prayer for her.

I ask your prayers for Rhoda who is in her last hours after bravely battling cancer (and perhaps more bravely dealing with bipolarity for many years). May she pass peacefully and painlessly into the arms of mercy. May her partner Judith be sustained by grace and love at this time. May the light of Christ enfold them both.

And finally:

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Please add your own intercessions, petitions, and thanksgivings to this thread.

Yes, Paul, prayers for everyone. I went with members of the choir to sing for Rhoda yesterday. When we finished and were saying goodbye one at a time, Rhoda was getting out of the bed insisting that she had to go to the door to thank us! She has been a tough bird! I love her to bits.

Who do you know that knows her? Just curious.

Paul --prayers for all. And I am sorry that we went to the 7:30 service yesterday so I was not available to hug and hold later.

As I told Brian, I was please to hear the recognition of Jon Daniels. He was at ETS when I was hanging out at the Episcopal Chaplaincy at HR and he was also there from time to time and considered one of our own. A big shock for a sheltered young person that he was murdered. Damn -- this Christian stuff has consequences.

Susan S. - We knew each other through St Mark's.

Susnakay - a colleague of mine in San Francisco, the late Fr Peter Hayn, knew Jon and that has created a living link for me to this particular martyr, one of the saints within my own lifetime. I imagine it was shattering for those who knew him.
