We need to keep on dreaming

And working.

And praying.

And speaking truth.

And practicing justice, mercy, humility.

OPOL has a touching post up today, titled "Dreaming of a Better World."

It ends with this video:

[I know that when I flare up I am anything but compassionate or humble. I can only trust in grace to calm me down and set my feet on the good road again.]

Paul

I want you to go see that best friend of yours who served you that scrumptious rack of lamb the other night, and get him to slap that bear's butt of yours good and hard- only once, or you might start enjoying it.

'I know that when I flare up I am anything but compassionate or humble. I can only trust in grace to calm me down and set my feet on the good road again'

You know enough dharma to know that duality is dumb knot we tie ourselves into to no real end, and that the 'good' road, the 'right' road- the only road you need is always there, right under your feet.

Your embodiment of your Christian faith is also real and muscled enough to know that in the end everything is grace, and thankflly we're all works in progress.

Your 'flare up's are simply pained caring- and who among us is not less skillful than we might wish at times? Works in progress, brother, all of us.

So no more drop kicks on either your head or your heart- they just don't cut it with us your friends.

Your blog stands witness of a wondrously human man of faith, intelligence, taste and yes passion.

Personally I find your stamina in continuing to witness to the loss of life in Iraq and Afghanistan as nothing short of heroic. Your love of our liturgy, your talent for friendship, and your eye for beauty are all blessings in the public sphere.

So no more less than skillful shots on Paul, of if that butt-slap doesn't work I'll get our sister Fran on your case.

hugs and Happy Thanksgiving Paul

LOL. David, I was doing a bit of contrition for unsettling some good folks with my violent imagery, though no one would have taken me literally, of course. But I'm not loading a big guilt trip on myself, I promise. And I prefer to administer the spankings, not receive them, thanks all the same. (Friends who are into leather find me boringly vanilla and annoyingly unwilling to submit.)

Now, if you've been naughty....
