Lord, have mercy

Asperges me hyssopo et mundabor; super nivem bealbabor.

Purifícame con hisopo, y seré limpio;
lávame, y seré más blanco que la nieve.

'Shame' hardly does it justice. But it is a start. How does the country, the state, cleanse itself of the pollution of Cheneyism?

--Josh Marshall

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

V. Favorably with mercy hear our prayers;
R. O Son of David, have mercy upon us.
V. Both now and ever vouchsafe to hear us, O Christ;
R. Graciously hear us, O Christ; graciously hear us, O Lord Christ.

The Officiant concludes

Let us pray.

We humbly beseech thee, O Father, mercifully to look upon our infirmities; and, for the glory of thy Name, turn from us all those evils that we most justly have deserved; and grant that in all our troubles we may put our whole trust and confidence in thy mercy, and evermore serve thee in holiness and pureness of living, to thy honor and glory; through our only Mediator and Advocate, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Paul, I read the excerpt at TPM. I printed the whole piece from the Times, because I don't like to read very long articles online.

I have read a couple of pages, and I'm filled with disgust at what they have done.

Will we ever get the blood off our hands?

Lord, have mercy.

Sigh. The atrocities done in the name of the American People are legion and they multiply daily. Why we don't have millions marching in the street every day is beyond me. We have thrown away our Constitution and allowed these asshats to lead us from one horror to another.

Lady Macbeth captured it well:
Will all great Neptune's ocean wash this blood clean from my hand or will this, my hand, rather the multitudinous seas incarnadine, making the green one red?

God only knows.

We are in a sorry state.

Christ, have mercy.

I certainly don't need to read anything more to be disgusted, not do I believe we will get this wiped clean, short of God's help.

Otherwise, prepare for the worst, then do they best ya can as long as ya can.

Well, quite. It is a sorry state we are now in and we cannot dip our hands in water and say, "That's that." Isaiah spoke of God's ability to deal with stains. Hmm. This may be the one moment when I hope "In God We Trust" means something for the United States because we ain't gonna get our hands clean and our hearts right at the rate we're going.

Prepare for the worst sounds about right, and doing what good we can when we can, wherever we are at the moment, as Grandmère has commented elsewhere here.

May America wake up to what is happening and say, No more!
