Where do they get this shit?

I did say :they don't just come out of nowhere" when speaking of homicidal nutjobs like Richard Poplawski. There are numerous articles out today on the influence of people who whip up hysteria over stuff they pull out of their asses.

Now, where would Poplawski get the idea that the Obama administration was going to take away his guns, or at least try?

Exhibit A:

Res ipsa loquitur.

As for the reportage on this puppy? Pathetic. Worse. Irresponsible.

Check out David Waldman, and in his follow-up here, and Mcjoan, and David Neiwert, and Maha. Even the Rude Pundit addresses the right wingers, slicing through obfuscation to a very clear point:
You can't say that we're heading towards revolution and that gun laws are harming America, but, hey, we don't want violence. No, you can't walk around naked with a raging hard-on, but then say you don't wanna fuck something.
Oh, and have I mentioned lately that Rep. Michelle Bachmann of Minnesota is batshit insane? I mean, really delusional!
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann says she fears the Obama administration will create “re-education camps for young people, where young people have to go and get trained in a philosophy that the government puts forward and then they have to go to work in some of these politically correct forums.”

Let's face it, Faux Noise has made a business out of GOP talking points, outright falsehoods, and peddling crazy. Blessed are those who can untangle those three.

Those of us who believe in free speech don't want to silence them (pace their paranoia), but we want them confronted and challenged, we want the rest of the media to challenge lies and error, we want the populace to have some chance of discerning truth. Dare I say it? Real old-fashioned journalism with investigative reporting and clear distinctions between facts, opinion, and outright fiction. If ever there were a temptation to despair....

Almighty God, you proclaim your truth in every age by many voices: Direct, in our time, we pray, those who speak where many listen and write what many read; that they may do their part in making the heart of this people wise, its mind sound, and its will righteous; to the honor of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
