God have mercy on us all- such a dark chapter and yet so frequently ignored.
I was once in a store in my former suburban NYC home and the clerk had an accent. I always ask people where they are originally from.
He was Armenian and said that he knew I probably knew nothing about Armenian people. I acknowledged that I knew some from my time in California and in Jerusalem and I acknowledged the horror of what happened in some way.
This man looked at me as if I had 3 heads - he said people so rarely even asked and that if they did, hardly anyone knew or cared.
God have mercy on us all.
Thanks, Fran. Indeed, very few know or care and the survivors are rapidly fading from the earth.
My signature on the companion post, which is probably at least partly misspelled or ungrammatical, reads: "I am a non-Armenian but I am Armenian" and I used my Armenian name Boghos (= Paul). It is the Hye people that I grew up among.
