Long, hectic day

Light blogging today (after very busy blogging on the weekend). Today was quite frantic at work, from the time I logged on to the computer until I finally wound down and logged out. During most of the morning I was snapping at folks and strongly implying they were in danger of having their heads bitten off. I was being pulled in too many directions and asked too many questions all at once while I was trying to complete one complex task after another. When I am working on one gnarly deadline item it is not a good time to ask me about another especially complicated one. Those who did that today will probably not try it again anytime soon.

Which means I was quite unpleasant. Well, there you have it. We were all frazzled.

In order not to start tomorrow the same way I stayed late tonight and finished up what I hope are the last of the nasty items I've been tackling for the past week. It felt good to print off the summaries, make the adjustments, and put the files back to bed.

I doubt this means tomorrow will be calm but at least less fierce and frazzled.

On happier notes: we are having crisp autumn days in New Orleans right now. My usual habit of only a lightweight cotton shirt with no undershirt or sweater or other layers does not quite work when the wind blows. Cool and dry breezes. Woohoo!

Tonight as I walked toward the apartment I heard a freight train going by and realized I had just heard its whistle.

Most of my life I have lived where I could hear trains going by. I love the sound of a train at night. Very satisfying.

Since it is already after ten p.m. right now this may be the only post tonight. Still reading this morning's comics, then on to the political blogs and friends' blogs.

Peace out.

And vote.

Sorry you had such a crappy day. Tomorrow will be better.

Thanks, Susan. It really wasn't that bad in that the work actually progressed smoothly. I was performing simple "mechanical" tasks that were just very complex and required lots of focus. I feel really good about the productivity, making more progress than I had most days in the past week. But I everyone was tense and cranky and I did not behave prettily. I jokingly told my cubicle-mate that at least I had not killed anyone but since he was the person nearest me he might want to stay alert. Mercifully he was in good humor all day.

Hang in there my friend. Work, deadlines and such- can be a challenge. I do not miss that. Paycheck- that I miss. LOL.

When you mentioned the train I smiled. I love the sounds of trains. When I visited Caminante this summer she was telling me about the sound of the trains being like clockwork. More recently she wrote about how she will miss that.

No train sounds where I am, in the heart of suburbia.

At least you are not snapping at us here, Paul. Too many tight deadlines will sometimes do that to the best of us. I hope you had a great day today. We had our first snowfall here in Ottawa, Canada starting last evening, and it's still October!
