Grandmère tagged me

Perhaps all those terrible things Maddy says about her are true. Do you suppose? Anyway, Mimi has tagged me and there you have it.

I will play along lest some swamp mafia come after me (and my stuffed animals too).

- Link to the person that tagged you. (done)
- Post the rules on your blog. (done)
- Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. (done)
- Tag six people and at the end of your post, link to their blogs. (not done)
- Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog. (also not done)

1. I have been hankering for oatmeal of late, what with the colder weather, and this morning I had a huge bowl of it with orange zest, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, craisins, brown sugar, and half and half. Whatever virtue all that oat bran may have was probably offset by the sugar and cream but, my, it was delicious and satisfying!

2. I have not planted my bulbs yet. In California I would be a month late and have no idea what will happen here. (Nothing, if I don't get my rear in gear.)

3. I am a compulsive player of Freecell. If a window takes more than 0.1 second to load, I have probably begun another game of it.

4. I kick off my shoes the moment I come in the door. As a child I did not run around barefoot but in stocking feet. In adulthood I moved to barefoot whenever possible. My father disapproved of shoelessness. That should be the worst worry of all parents!

5. The remains of a rabbit lie outside my back door near the lilac. Perhaps a coyote dined there. It is winter in the desert; I am allowing natural dessication to take place, not to mention nourishment of insects. Eventually I will dig a hole, sprinkle some prayer tobacco, and let the last remnants go to soil.

6. As a child in the Central Valley of California (and with aunts and uncles with farms) I did not eat fresh grapes, strawberries, peaches, figs, plums, or most of the things that are truly delicious when locally grown and fresh off the vine. I might as well have lived in a remote non-farming area with nothing but apples, bananas, oranges, and canned fruit cocktail (yes, the horror!).

Having accepted that tag, I am not tagging others. All may. None must. Some should.

I should have said that (all may, none must, some should) when I didn't tag. Thanks for this additional exercise of sacramental ministry :-).

A friend of mine responded by e-mail:

1) I hate to sit and watch tv without doing something with my hands - preferrably crochet
2) Always have a book of some kind (101 short murder mysteries, Onion book of headlines, etc) on the tank of my toilet...I hate wasting time when I go to the bathroom. At least, while my body is busy, I'm improving my mind!
3) Used to be a cat person, but have gone over to the other side and am delighted with my four dogs. There is nothing quite so blissful as coming home to unconditional love...
4) Am a big fan of musicals - the older the better
5) Fall asleep routinely listening to the most heinous crimes on Tru TV - and sleep like a baby!
6) My grandfather invented a game my father and mother tried to market, based on WWII battles - called Strategy

Paul, we're very nearly twins separated at birth, what with the oatmeal, Freecell, and removing shoes.

This morning, I had the oatmeal with sliced almonds, craisins, raisins, and white raisins, with milk, not half-and-half, and not even a teaspoon of sugar.

I must have my few games of Freecell before shutting the computer down for the night.

I walk around in socks, instead of barefooted, because somehow the socks reduce toe-stubbing. The shoes come off, unless I'm going out again very soon.

I'll have to remember the, "All may...." for the next tag, which I won't do.

Grandmère, have the two of us ever been seen in the same place at the same time? Aha!

"Swamp mafia"? Is that Mimi, or me?

I'll play later. Need to get some food in me now.

"Inconsequentialia" is a wonderful word.

I think we're all in oatmeal mode these days. I just got back to it too! My mother taught me a great trick, which is to put the oatmeal (if you use the old-fashioned kind as I do -- buy it organic in bulk at the local healthy food co-op) and water (more water than you think it needs) in a crock pot at night, on "low" and you wake up and there's your hot oatmeal all creamy and ready to eat, and no cooking breakfast time. Just add raisins, nuts, maple syrup, yogurt, or whatever your little heart desires, or nothing, and eat. If some is left over then you can just store it in the fridge and heat it up the next morning or two, either in the crock pot or in a pan on the stove.

We just got a whoosh of warm weather though so I skipped the oatmeal this morning. It was an egg day.

I use old-fashioned, not "instant," oatmeal but I use the microwave. It is quick, doesn't scorch, and seems to come out just fine. I like the idea of finding it waiting for one in the morning, though.

Are you suggesting that "of course he might be gulp right"? No matter what he says, I adore Grandmere!

I have been tagged three times of late. I know I won't do one- it is a good one but it requires linking to 5 or 6 old posts.. too time consuming!

Then I got a good one on regrets and not-regrets, that I am doing.

And now this one as I would do anything for dear Grandmere!

For the record, I have no interest in oatmeal (yeech) or freecell (???) so I hope that both you and Grandmere still like me.

Fran, I believe the crowd around here is pretty much in agreement that being different doesn't make us bad persons. Hooray for diversity!

My wireless is wonky, and I couldn't see your graphic until recently.

Now, I'll thank you to help me get "Little Bunny Foo Foo" out of my head.

(If you say that's before your time and you don't know it, remember that I know how to reach you.)

Actually, based on those who sing it (a decade younger than myself, perhaps), I would say that the tune is AFTER my time. I cannot be responsible for those whose neural wiring brings that horrid tune up (like vomit). You might want to see a specialist about this unfortunate condition.

The art of Albrecht Dürer has never had that effect on me, thank you, Jesus and holy mother Mary.

Kirstin said...

Ack, AFTER is what I meant. I never said I was good at math, LOL.

I don't know of any specialists in earworm contagion. But apparently I shared mine with you. :-)

Paul said...

Well, you tried. But I warded off the infection by playing Non nobis, Domine sed nomine tuo da gloriam. A much nicer tune.

Well, I don't know if I can be that inclusive. You want me to love folks who don't like oatmeal?

Fran, if you don't do the meme, no guilt. Promise?
