Monday in Lent 2

Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3-4)

It is no small thing to be incorporated into the Paschal mystery. We let go of so much (i.e., everything) to die with Christ and so much (i.e., everything) becomes new again.
Walking in newness of life is only possible by divine gift. Even though it is possible by gift and grace it entails our cooperation, daily letting go, again and again, and receiving afresh, again and again, as God's Spirit works transformation in us and through us.

Let your Spirit, O Lord, come into the midst of us to wash us with the pure water of repentance, and prepare us to be always a living sacrifice to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
