Ugandan Exodus? - Updated

This from The Associated Press:
KAMPALA, Uganda: Uganda's Anglican church threatened Monday to secede from the rest of the 77-million member fellowship unless U.S. clergy condemn homosexuality.

The announcement was the latest salvo in a fierce debate about homosexuality has overtaken the global Anglican Communion since its U.S. wing — the Episcopal Church — consecrated its first openly gay bishop in 2003.

"Anglicanism is just an identity and if they abuse it, we shall secede. We shall remain Christians, but not in the same Anglican Communion," Church of Uganda spokesman Aron Mwesigye said.

The Prior of Desert Farne has this to say about that:

"Go in peace and STFU." [Makes sign of the Cross over those departing.]

UPDATE:
Evidently they are not leaving after all. Mwesigye was either misquoted before (see above) or has changed his tune.
“The Church of Uganda is not seceding from the Anglican Communion,” said Rev. Canon Aaron Mwesigye, church spokesperson. “Some press stories have misrepresented our position.”
Mixed feelings on my part would be an understatement.

Jesus never rejected or shamed anyone. Do those Ugandans know something that He did not????

I'm still trying to wrap my little brain around the Anglicanism is just an identity... so maybe they'll become the what? Ugandapalians? The power play tactics shine through pretty strong in all this!

Holy crap- that identity thing didn't permeate my anger and despair yesterday.

Identity? God have mercy on us all.

Sent with prayers from your Catholic cohort. If such things were mere identity, they could be changed more easily. And how shallow and sad would that be?

I believe their thinking is very confused and, yes, this is judgmental of me, shallow. It is true that our communion is a fellowship of autonomous churches, something the Western world has trouble grasping, but I think the Ugandan Christology has been shaped overmuch by the Protestant end of the Anglican spectrum.

I always wonder at these 180s, if the accountants got ahold of the bish and pointed out how much funding comes from the US....

Ah, well. I cannot serve both God and Mammon, myself, ergo the frequent Opening of the Wallet and Depositing Into the Collection Plate.
